The Art of Travel

St. Augustine once said: "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page." And that's exactly how I feel. I imagine that many people share this feeling with me. But I met some people in my life, a select, rare, which unfortunately have not shared this view. And I can not imagine what my life would be like if I thought like them.

My love of travel developed from scratch. As a young child, I was blessed to have parents who took me all over the country. Both loved to tour and learn about new places. Before I was only five years old, had already been in all Northwest states, two Canadian provinces and two islands of Hawaii. Throughout my childhood, my mother and I would like to make road trips across the country. When my father remarried, he got lucky with a stepmother who was not only surprising but also worked for Alaska Airlines. Because of it, I have to travel in an Alaska Airlines flight for free. In college I studied abroad twice and almost did not return after the second time. It is safe to say, I love traveling.

But as I said, I have met few people in my life I hate to travel. Who think their little corner in the U.S. is the best place on earth and never want to experience everything. Now, I know it's not my place to judge, but I can not stop thinking about everything you're missing out on - experiences, cultures and people. The trip is how it changed my outlook on life, is how to develop compassion and empathy. How can people know what is really there, what life really is, without experiencing the world first-hand?

There are great deals out there so many trips all the time, so it is easy to see the world. I know that air travel is not as glamorous as it used to be, what with all the extra projection and waiting at airports. But the interesting thing is that once you've reached your destination, do it all worthwhile. In my opinion, the journey is the only way to have a full life. I know that without her I would not be who I am today.
